Hidden Threads:
The investigation in child labour practices in Asian fashion industries

Welcome to Hidden Threads where we are dedicated to promoting and protecting the rights of children. Our mission is to create a world where every child's voice is heard, and every child's rights are respected.
As responsible citizens of the world, we should focus in eliminating child labour prevalent in the entire supply chain of the textile and garment industry. In order to achieve that, we need to understand the specific activities and areas where children are employed during the process of producing the clothes.
What, Who, Why
What really is the problem?
At Hidden Threads, we focus on the problem of Child Labour in the fashion industry. Child Labour is a global problem. UNICEF believes that more that 100 million children are still working. Child Labour doesn't only mean children that are working, it means that children also have to work in dangerous circumstances. The definition of Child Labour according to the ILO (International Labour Organization) is "Work that deprives children of their childhood, their potential and their dignity, which is harmful to physical and mental development."
Who is being impacted?
Lots of children are being affected. These children work for some fashion retailers and they are normally below 14 - 15 years old.
Why do children work?
Children work because they need to raise money for the household, their families and themselves. Instead of having an education children have to work for their survival!

Causes
Causes of Child Labour
Hidden Threads focuses on various critical causes to support children’s rights, including education, protection from violence, and access to healthcare. These causes are central to our mission in creating a better future for all children.

Education
Empowering through Knowledge
Child Labour causes children to miss the education they need. Ensuring every child has access to quality education is fundamental in breaking the cycle of poverty and building a better society. Children should be doing things that are necessary for them.
Protection
Safety and Well-being
For a better future children need a shelter, a place to live. Protecting children from all forms of violence and abuse is essential for their healthy development and future well-being. All children should have protection and be safe.

Healthcare
Improving Access to Care
Children need access to healthcare so they don't get hurt or they are sick. Children work in the fields so they will get pricked and they inhale and touch toxic pesticides. Providing children with adequate healthcare services and promoting healthy living practices are crucial for their overall well-being.
